Dunkelman & Son Ltd, known throughout the trade as 'DASCO the shoe care specialists', was founded by Freddie in 1946. The business started life in a small workshop in Battersea, initially making ice hockey sticks (Freddie was a professional ice hockey player at that time and went on to represent England in the 1948 Olympic Games). In 1950 the company took its first step into shoe care. This side of the business flourished as they began to develop and patent their own products and by the late 50s shoe care had become Dunkelman's core business. In 1969 they moved into a new purpose built factory and warehouse in Desborough, Northants, where they are based today.
Freddie's heritage of service, innovation and quality, remains in safe hands. Sons, Stephen and Jon Dunkelman and daughter Jane Woodnutt, will continue to run the company in their Director roles, together with Executive Chairman, Philip Luckett. |
